Soulful Sound at Seventeen

Yazzie Jay belts out songs of love and loss like she actually experienced both

Mix a soulful voice with a bubbly personality and you've got 17-year-old Yazzie Jay.

For a second you might think you are listening to a young India Arie. In fact Yazzie Jay says, "I love India Arie, I think she is amazing." The teen credits Arie as one of her top musical influences.

The Orange County native, picked up a guitar when she was 11 and has been singing and writing ever since.

A self-taught musician, she learned to play the piano, drums, bass and guitar all without formal lessons.

Yazzie Jay describes her talent as a blessing. She stopped by NewsRaw to give a sneak peak from her upcoming album "Beauty of the Soul."  She performed an exclusive acoustic version of a new single "Shy Surprise."

"It's about the beauty within, which is the most important and also the beauty of soul music," Yazzie Jay said.

You can find her performing around the Inland Empire and Orange County mostly.
