SF's Bad Santa Goes on Leno

Jay Leno will interview bad Santa Thursday on his show.

Turns out getting fired was a great thing for the Macy's Union Square Santa Claus.

Old St. Nick, otherwise known as John Toomey, got a new job offer within a matter of days at double the pay. Then he got a call from the Jay Leno show to ask if he would like to make an appearance on Thursday night's show.

The NBC talk show host heard about Toomey's story and decided the Northern California resident would be a good guest.  The segment is a quick one so make sure you tune in early.  Jay made Toomey part of his stand up routine.

You probably heard Toomey got fired because of a joke he says he's used for decades offended some customers. He told it to an adult couple last week and they in turn complained to management.

Here it is:

"When I ask the older people who sit on my lap if they've been good and they say, 'Yes.' I say, 'Gee, that's too bad.' Then, if they ask why Santa is so jolly, I joke that it's because I know where all the naughty boys and girls live." -- Toomey

Toomey says he only tells it to adults.

Even though he'd been sitting in the Santa chair at Union Square for 20 years, Macy's decided to fire him following the complaint.

Toomey's first day at his new paying job is Friday. He will be at a nearby bar about a block away from Union Square starting at 5 p.m.
