HBO Apologizes for Fake George W. Bush Head on Stake

HBO will remove controversial scene featuring the fake head of George W. Bush on a pike in Season 1 of "Game of Thrones"

HBO has apologized for a scene showing the likeness of former President George W. Bush’s head on a stake in its hit fantasy series “Game of Thrones,” according to reports.

The scene, which the show’s lead producers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss joke about in the audio commentary on the Season 1 DVD, will be removed from the DVD, People reported.

"We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste," HBO said in a statement. "We made this clear to the executive producers of the series, who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production."

The DVD commentary was noticed from someone on Reddit, whose observation was then picked up by i09, according to The Washington Post.

Benioff and Weiss apologized in their own statement, saying that they rented prosthetic body parts in bulk and after the scene was shot, someone noticed the head’s resemblance to Bush.

"After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush," they said. "In the DVD commentary, we mentioned this, though we should not have. We meant no disrespect to the former president and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise."
