Bon Temps: Fat Tuesday Around Town

Pet parades, zydeco, crawfish, and living large; find NOLA in SoCal.

Part of the spirit of Fat Tuesday is the concept of rain, at least in the non-wet form. Beads rain down upon revelers, and treats, and good times, and all of the things that can fall from above, physically or proverbially, to add to a rollin' and raucous bon temps.

But rain clearly didn't get the memo about the "proverbially" end of things. It actually showed over the weekend, making things more than a mite soggy for several Fat Tuesday bashes that got an early weekend start.

Including the long-running one at the Original Farmers Market at Third & Fairfax. But fear not, bead-wearers: The landmark has one more Fat Tuesday to-do in store, and it is on Fat Tuesday itself: March 4.

The Farmers Market party rolls in the evening, with authentic New Orleans tunes, and food for purchase from the Gumbo Pot. The pet parade over the weekend? That's postponed -- new date is April 12 -- but you can stomp and shake the evening away.

Other spots around Southern California doing the brassy bash thing include Whiskey Red's in Marina del Rey and Pearl's Liquor Bar in West Hollywood.

If you're looking for straight-up delicious eats that have French Quarter flair, Harold and Belle's on West Jefferson, Orleans & York Deli on Slauson, and the aforementioned Gumbo Pot have it going on.

And if you can make it to Rancho Santa Fe earlier in the day, check it out: A Doggie Gras and Fat Cat Tuesday Parade'll be led by Beignet and Gumbo, and just-rescued dog mom and kitten son up for adoption. Sweet times.
