    Boo at the Zoo
Roam the "Nocturnal Adventure" maze and watch special animal feedings, all October long.

Watching a furry, four-footed beastie stick her head inside a carved-out pumpkin, all in order to reach every last delicious pulpy bite?

It's a sight that's only seen at zoos, and only, traditionally, in the month of October. And as is the way of things as Halloween draws nearer, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens will be placing the savory squashes out for their plant-eating residents on designated "Creature Treat" days during Boo at the LA Zoo.

Boo at the LA Zoo, though, isn't just a weekend-long kind of deal; it will run throughout October, from Sunday, Oct. 1 through Tuesday, Oct. 31, though planning your visit to one of the popular special animal feedings will mean being at the Griffith Park animal park on a weekend day.

As for the carnivores at the zoo? Their carefully crafted feedings, the so-named "Fearsome Feedings," aren't built around pumpkin pleasures, but rather "carcasses and bones," edibles chosen specifically to enhance their dietary needs.

And when you're not watching an animal dig into his favorite snack, you can participate in a host of other doings, from a "Nocturnal Adventure" maze full of "fun facts" to the Swazzle's Monster Menagerie puppet show.

Pumpkin carving, the making of holiday or thematic crafts, and a chance to see snakes, tarantulas, and other crawly-leggy critters from just a short distance away are also on the fun-frightful schedule.

And on the weekend ahead of Halloween? There shall be trick-or-treat stations as well as "roaming characters," so count on Oct. 28 and 29 to possess some extra spooky zing.

The month-long kid-cute happening is presented by 99 Cents Stores. As for an additional get-in cost? Nothing scary here: Just your zoo admission is all that's required to participate in the Boo at the LA Zoo to-dos.
