Brave a Monstrous Movie Marathon at The Montalbán

If you thought the scary movie nights would wait for fall, you're as incorrect as a ghost is spooky.

What to Know

  • Saturday, July 27
  • The Montalbán Rooftop in Hollywood
  • $35 general admission

First things first: Those really are foam tombstones and light-up jack o'lanterns you're now seeing in the aisles of your local craft and home goods stores.

For much in the way that Christmas ornaments appears in our shops around Labor Day, Halloween stuff has a way of haunting our retail experiences in conjunction with back-to-school items.

So lest you think that the upcoming Camp Fangoria is a little too early, well A) it isn't, if stores are modern bellwethers and B) this is Los Angeles, where year-round Halloween high jinks command a bigger fandom than a haunted cemetery has headstones.

You get us.

The scary movie marathon does have the word "camp" in its title, suggesting summertime fun. But there'll be far more fright-having than fun-fun times in the line-up of classic horror movies set to roll out atop The Montalbán in Hollywood on Saturday, July 27.

Those films? Hold your bestie close: "The Burning," "Sleepaway Camp," and "Evil Dead 2" are on the devious docket, as is "live mini episode of the popular horror interview podcast POST MORTEM WITH MICK GARRIS." Producer Joe Russo will be in the house, er, on the rooftop to talk about his career in frightful filmmaking.

The Scene

Want to find new things to do in Los Angeles? The Scene's lifestyle stories have you covered. Here's your go-to source on where the fun is across SoCal and for the weekend.

‘Record Store Day' turns up the volume on vinyl-tastic deals, events, and giveaways

‘The Fall Guy' will propel, for a limited time, into Universal's beloved ‘WaterWorld' attraction

Arena Cinelounge is a partner with Fangoria on this summer-meets-October affair.

A ticket? General admission is $35, and that nets you all the flicks, as well as a chance to hear/see the podcast as it is recorded.

But wait, there's more morbid-merry haps, with a DJ, horror trivia, merch-buying opportunities, an Umami Burger pop-up, and "special guests" promised.

Does the promise of pumpkins, eeky experiences, and cooler days have you dreaming of what's soon to come? Spend a night in autumn, while it is still summer, atop The Montalbán at Camp Fangoria.
