Catch the Jurassic Park Ride at Universal Studios Before it Goes Extinct

The 22-year-old Jurassic Park ride is closing for good on Sept. 3

What to Know

  • The Jurassic Park ride opened in 1996.
  • Jurassic Park will close on Sept. 3.
  • The Steven Spielberg-directed movie generated about $1 billion in gross revenue worldwide.

One of the very first thrill rides to exist at Universal Studios Hollywood is set to end its 22-year run on Monday.

Jurassic Park has immersed fans into the world of dinosaurs since 1996, and is being closed to make way for a more modern version of the ride.

USH plans to renovate the area where Jurassic Park has been for decades to install a ride that reflects the newer films in the franchise. There have been five movies so far, including the most recent, "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom." The franchise has made more than $1 billion worldwide since its release.

Jurassic Park takes visitors on giant, yellow boats through a world where dinosaurs roam the earth. The seven-minute ride starts off peaceful enough, with guests occasionally getting sprayed with water by a silly Stegosaurus or bold Brontosaurus. But just like in the movie, things quickly go awry.
