Haute Cuisine Scene: LA Food & Wine Fest

Big-name chefs and eatable events around town: The out-sized appetizing bash is here.

What constitutes a major deal for a dine-out fan?

Having the chef send an impromptu, off-the-menu dish to your table, as a surprise, qualifies here. Finding that a restaurant you visit regularly has named a special after you is also a stand-out.

And chowing down on a once-a-year delicacy is something worth bragging about, too, in foodie circles.

The Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival also holds a high place in the "major deal" category, at least where foodie fans around Southern California are concerned (and, yes, well beyond our region, too).

That's because a whole line-up of big-name, notably innovative chefs come out for appearances at a host of appetite-pleasing events around town, and finding your plate-based perfection is as easy as scrolling down the out-sized roster.

The four-day eat-around experience is on from Thursday, Aug. 24 through Sunday, Aug. 27 and the menu is massive: The Power Lunch Series is just one of the main courses, but the Night Market on Grand Avenue on Aug. 25 and the Lexus Grand Tasting at Barker Hangar on Aug. 26 and 27 also catch the eye (or, rather, tempt the tummy).

It's all deliciously depends upon the sort of scene you want, in the neighborhood you're near, and the chefs you'd like to see. Some of the talked-about toques on board for the bites-packed party include Curtis Stone of Gwen, Neal Fraser of Redbird, Brooke Williamson of Playa Provisions, and Shannon Swindle of Craft.

Perhaps the biggest asterisk of the long weekend of dine-out spectaculars? You don't have to purchase a one-fell-swoop ticket. Rather, you can a la carte it, much like you might do while dining in restaurant, picking and choosing where you'd like to go and what you'd like to see.

And by "see" we also mean "sup," because the Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival, which is presented by Coastal Luxury Management, Lexus, and Food & Wine, is very much about trying the vibrant vittles currently being dreamed up, and realized, in our cuisine-loving city.
