Join a Ginormous ‘Human Bike Sculpture,' in Pasadena

Volunteers will gather for the offbeat event, which celebrates the Amgen Tour of California, at the Rose Bowl.

What to Know

  • Rose Bowl Stadium
  • Friday, April 26, 3 to 4 p.m.
  • Volunteers needed

Ever lined up, shoulder-to-shoulder, with a bunch of other extremely game people, all to form a giant word or image? Filling up a large chunk of a park or field or playground as you all found your correct positions?

It's a pursuit that we might know from school, or summer camp, or a team-building workshop. But sometimes such whimsy spins its spokes in honor of a huge event that just happens to be heading for town.

Such a spokeful spectacular will roll into Pasadena in the middle of May. It's the Amgen Tour of California, which will visit several Golden State cities, with both the women's and men's cycling races concluding in the Crown City.

To both anticipate and celebrate these bike-big bashes, the Pasadena Convention and Visitors Bureau, Rose Bowl Stadium, and CICLE are putting together quite the humongous hello.

The Human Bicycle, a large-scale, people-packed bike "sculpture," will come together, courtesy of many, many volunteers, on the field of Rose Bowl Stadium on Friday, April 26 from 3 to 4 in the afternoon.

"A drone will fly over and take an aerial shot to capture this unique form of art," reads a statement on the registration page.

LA says goodbye to the iconic Conga Room

Want to be a small but essential part of this behemoth bicycle? All while standing inside one of the most famous stadiums around?

Sign up now, if this all floats your boat, or, er, heats your handlebars.

And, if you're one of the first 100 participants to register, you'll score a complimentary VIP pass to the food truck festival that's happening just after the photo concludes.

That's Final Fridays, a brand-new food truck festival popping up at the Rose Bowl over the next six months (on the final Friday of each month, yep). Even if you don't nab a free VIP pass, you can still attend, of course.

Bonus? Entry is free.

So, will you be inside a spoke? Or the seat? Perhaps a wheel? You'll be standing in the Human Bicycle, and not stretched out on the grass, do note.

It's all as light-hearted as spring itself, or a free-breezy spin on a bicycle. If you dig bikes, Pasadena, and being included in super-cool snapshots, throw your name in now, all to play a part in the Human Bicycle.
