Quibble with this fact, we cannot: Pasadena is just about the bloomiest bastion in the Western Hemisphere in the days ahead of the new year.
This isn't just about what might be growing in any given Crown City garden; we speak of the grand flower-covered floats that'll be ready to roll on Monday, Jan. 2. (Yes, Jan. 2, 2017, so adjust your calendar, if it needs adjusting.)
But just a hop/skip over from the Tournament of Roses prep there will be snow, lots of snow, the kind of snow that is the opposite of the petal party that's happening at numerous float-prep spots around the city.
Is some rare storm expected? Nope, but do count on Snow Days flurrying into Kidspace Children's Museum, the Rose Bowl-close gem of an educational institution.
"5 Days of Winter Wonderland Fun" are expected at the family-nice destination, so block off Monday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 30 on the calendar, maybe when you go to write down that the Rose Parade is actually on the second of January and not the first.
What's "Winter Wonderland" mean? Expect a Snow Zone daily, an on-the-hour Snow Storm (created by a magical machine, yes), cookie decorating, the fashioning of wintry crowns, an educational look at water, and live performances each day at 1 o'clock.
Past visitors to Snow Days, by the by, really do show with heavy gloves in tow, the better to dig into all of the flakeage on the ground.

Unusual, not-often-seen-in-Pasadena flakeage, we'll add. It's true that flowery sights reign supreme around the turn of the year in the city, but even Southern California kids, and their grown-ups, can find a cold dose of wintertime if they know where to go.
