LA Fleet Week?

It's as big as a mast is tall or a stern is long. And that the annual event fills several days around Labor Day Weekend each year with a host of free and festive happenings further makes the water-close festivity one of the major summer-enders around the region.

The 2018 LA Fleet Week, which is billed as a "... multi-day celebration of our nation's Sea Services," drops anchor at the LA Waterfront in San Pedro from Aug. 31 through Sept. 3.

This year's party is presented by Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video, and the show's premiere celebration will take place on the opening night of LA Fleet Week, with "talent and creators in attendance."

Also on deck on the splashy schedule?

Fireworks over the USS Iowa, informative ship tours, a 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament (LA Port Police vs. Navy Team #2 is just one match-up), equipment demonstrations, Aerial Demonstrations sponsored by Clyde & Co., The Beach Boys Military Appreciation Concert, sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation, and Brews, Blues & BBQ at the SS Lane Victory.

Plenty of live entertainment even beyond the major shows, and goings-on not at the waterfront, like a Navy Film Festival at the Warner Grand Theatre, also festoon the packed-to-brimming roster.

Local restaurants, attractions, and other gotta-swing-bys dot the LA Fleet Week web site, so plan your time in San Pedro well ahead of the final day of August.

And, yep: The revelry actually starts a couple of days ahead of the official kick-off date, with a welcome party and "InstaFleet" Sunset Cruise, as well as other to-dos.
