Marilyn-Sweet Poolside Fundraiser

Photographs'll be up for auction at the benefit for the Downtown Women's Center.

While several decades have passed since the height of Marilyn Monroe's astronomical superstardom, one thing can be said with certainty: The luminous movie star remains at that height, now and always, in the hearts of her original fans, those who discovered her along the way, and those fans yet to come.

Stroll ten paces down Hollywood Boulevard and you'll see her smiling visage and platinum hairdo on everything from postcards to full-sized standees. Haunt the vintage cinemas and you're bound to find semiannual showings of classics like "Some Like It Hot" and "The Seven-Year Itch."

And call upon the chic Avalon Hotel, and its pool-close restaurant Viviane, and you're bound to spy several photographs of the legend up for an exhibition and silent auction during a special fundraiser.

That fundraiser is happening on Thursday, April 21 at the Beverly Hills location, and Andrew Weiss Gallery and Los Angeles Wine Tasting are the hosts. The gallery, by the by, "owns the world's largest archive collection of Marilyn Monroe original photographs ...," and is the organizers/overseer of the silent auction.

There shall be jazzy DJ tunes, with a focus on female artists, to lend the poolside soiree some further good vibes. If you want to buy a glass of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, that will be available (though note it is not included in your ticket). It's a storied bubbly that Marilyn herself very much enjoyed (as all her devotees surely know).

If you're a Marilyn maven and definitely want to secure spot, do so before April 12 and get a ticket for ten dollars. After the 12th tickets to the reception are $15.

The evening's beneficiary? The Downtown Women's Center, which is "dedicated to addressing the needs of women overcoming poverty and homelessness in Skid Row."
