May the Fourth: Happy “Star Wars” Day (Dog Toy Edition)

Petco and other places observe the galaxy-wide holiday.

It's getting to the point, these days, where you really don't need to undo your Princess Leia buns or strip off your Han Solo vest when you get home from the last big convention.

Sure, the buns are a mite uncomfortable to sleep in, and the vest can be a little too warm, but with the numerous ways to enter the Star Wars universe around Southern California, staying in costume at all times is probably just a smart idea for the Force-possessing fan.

May 4 is "Star Wars" Day -- May the fourth be with you, of course -- and it comes on the clanky heels of both Anaheim WonderCon and the "Star Wars" Celebration in Anaheim, two recent gatherings where a whole galaxy's worth of mega fans dressed up as Stormtroopers and Wookiees.

"Clanky heels": The distinctive sound a Stormtrooper makes as he is running through the corridors of the Death Star.

So how does one observe May the Fourth? We're not sure what they're doing on the Forest moon of Endor or Tatooine -- or even, really, if there's a "May" on those planets -- but here on Earth there are places to don your Leia buns or Solo vest, if you're still not rocking them from the last time.

Select Disney stores marking May 4 will feature "an exciting galactic atmosphere as music and clips play from the film and TV series." The Disney parks are expecting commemorative items just in time for May 4 (and, of course, if you go to Disneyland, you can always queue up for a few rides on Star Tours).

And Petco is debuting 13 new dog toys for "Star Wars"-loving hounds. Seriously, how might Darth Vader feel to have a Pug gnawing at his helmet? Social media, prepare for an onslaught of awww-sweet snapshots.

The Burbank Petco, by the by, is having a dress-up event from 2 to 6 p.m. on May 4.

Clanky-heeled Stormtroopers, best run for Burbank to join the bash, or wherever you want to mark May the fourth.
