National Fried Chicken Day Is on Its Crispy Way

Spicy specials and tum-filling sandwiches will be the flavorful theme on the first Saturday of July.

What to Know

  • Saturday, July 6
  • Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant will offer special National Fried Chicken Day shirts for sale
  • Lucky Bird is hiding golden tickets in "select buckets" (good for $25 off the next time you visit)

The Fourth of July is one of the eating-est of holidays, it's true.

And while hot dogs seem to star in the day's dining spotlight, and hamburgers, too, there's also a strong contingent out there serving buckets, platters, and sizable plates brimming with well-seasoned, nicely breaded fried chicken.

But you don't need to search for this classic poultry dish on the holiday, if you had other food plans. For there are several ways to find fab fried chicken around Southern California, every day of the year, but truly and especially on July 6.

For that's National Fried Chicken Day, which makes sense, popping up, as it does, so close to Independence Day. And several spots around our region will celebrate in a variety of special-driven and/or merchandise-focused ways.

Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant, one of the landmark fried chicken eateries in the area, will have special National Fried Chicken Day t-shirts for sale on July 6. Also good to know? "Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant and Knott's Chicken-To-Go are offering a special 10% discount with the order of Mrs. Knott's famous fried chicken exclusively on July 6th." Delish. Buena Park is the place, but you know that.

Lucky Bird, at Grand Central Market, is asking customers to keep their peepers peeled on July 6. Why? Because the eatery'll be stowing some "golden tickets in select buckets of Fried Chicken!" If you score such a ticket, you'll be able to use it on your next Lucky Bird visit. It's good for $25 off, cluck cluck.
