Fans are gathering at Griffith Park on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to mark the one-year anniversary of the passing of television travelogue host Huell Howser.

How has your last year of travel been?

Maybe a little light, if you've been busy. Maybe the focus has been on work trips. But you've likely felt the absence of Huell Howser, the affable, Golden State-lovin' public television travelogue icon. He passed away on Jan. 7, 2013, and our dreams of hitting the road and finding fresh 'n friendly adventure just haven't been quite the same since.

But we can still watch repeats of "California's Gold" and "Visiting with Huell Howser," again and again, and revisit those spots with a man who made a difference in a lot of lives. Seriously, right? Both the people he visited, and the businesses he spotlighted, and the viewers he inspired to travel.

Fans are headed for Griffith Park on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. to remember the host and his upbeat local legacy. KCET, the place where Mr. Howser made his television home for many years, has the info, but if you can't attend, you can pore over his page, which contains plenty of Howser-style humor and cheer.

And if the one-year anniversary memorial isn't quite enough for you, but you haven't got the time right now to make for the Forestiere Underground Gardens or Amargosa Opera House or the hundreds of quirky roadside places Mr. Howser championed, you can always call upon Chapman University in Orange, the home of the Huell Howser Archives.
