A round, rolled-out, thin layer of dough?

Count on it to hold a ladle of marinara or alfredo sauce, most often, and a few handfuls of shredded mozzarella, too.

Recent years, however, have seen a whole haute collection of cool toppers to the traditional pizza, from nuts to pasta to various fruits.

It's a development so delightful that a 'za-obsessed person might wish that every day would be National Pizza Day.

So how to best celebrate the sauce-strewn occasion? By checking out a few of the newer pizza-themed haps around Southern California, like...

Mr. Taco Nice Taqueria & Pizzeria, in Anaheim, which has been creating loaded-up pizzas that pay homage to street tacos since the late summer of '18.
