Posh Sips in Old Pas: Happy Hour Week

Specials and special tastes abound in the Crown City.

The start of brighter evenings is just on the horizon, in the form of Daylight Saving Time.

Old Pasadena's annual Happy Hour Week could be called, then, a bit of a harbinger, if harbingers arrived with a twist of lemon. It speaks to people socializing more after the day at the office wraps, or meeting up with friends at the local tavern while the sun is still out.

And like all good harbingers, Happy Hour Week, starts nicely in advance and runs right up to the date in question. The opening of the special-filled event is Tuesday, March 1, and it wraps on Monday, March 14, which means you can toast the arrival of later sunsets when it arrives on Sunday, March 13.

But what are those specials and special happenings? Look for Get Happy Wine Flights at Vertical Wine Bistro, while California Chutney is pairing up Lagunitas beer with its Loaded Fries (Chili Cheese Keema, Tikka Masala, and Curry Cheese are the yummy choices).

Both of those deals last throughout the 14-day run, but there are a number of nights that are about a single pour or place. Lucky Baldwins is the place to be on Wednesday, March 2. That is, if you're a buff of Belgian beer, for the tavern is focusing on flights of the fine foam that evening (and giving patrons a chance to win a trip to Belgium).

There are a couple of Get Happy crawls with Mr. Pasadena, too, on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 12. If you consider yourself a bit more of a social butterfly, and you want to meet fresh Pasadena pals, and you want to learn something about a few spots around the area, sign up.

Specialty cocktails around town, a craft soda and nostalgic eats event with Neon Retro Arcade, and other to-dos themed to the two-weeker are on the docket.

Above all, though, make sure your Metro card is in order, so you can hop the Gold Line home, or line up your ride ahead of time.

Daylight Saving is nearly here, and twilight is about to get pushed up the clock. Ponder exploring Old Pasadena and its walkable thoroughfares, which are lined with lively eateries and pubs.
