When does summer really and truly and fully and absolutely start?
Solstice-related answers are correct, of course, but we also look for early signs of the sunniest season on the big screen.
Not just in the blockbusters that start to show up in multiplexes in April and May, but in the returning classics that pop up on pop-up screens in some of Southern California's largest parks.
Street Food Cinema is one of the spunkiest purveyors of those pop-up favorites, and has been for a lucky seven years now.
And that spunky summer sunny fun'll continue in 2019, with a fresh roster of much-loved classics that are both older, semi-recent, and of the still-in-theaters variety.
"A Star Is Born" definitely falls in that final category, and if you'd like to see it played large at Poinsettia Recreation Park in West Hollywood on May 4, best purchase that ticket now.

"Crazy Rich Asians" will make its Street Food Cinema debut on June 1, at the LA Arboretum in Arcadia. On that same night? "Bohemian Rhapsody" will rock out at Poinsettia Recreation Park.
And "Black Panther" is set to call upon Griffith Park's Crystal Springs Picnic Area on July 6.
As for the older flicks? As in those movies from more than a few years back, or even our childhoods, in some cases?
Those will include "The Goonies," "Step Brothers," "The Sand Lot," and "Office Space."
Opening night, which will feature "500 Days of Summer," is only two months away, so mark your calendar for April 27.
A general advance ticket is $14, but there are some various tickets to consider before purchasing.
Also? The "Food" in the event's name is quite important, so you'll want to eye all of the food trucks scheduled to appear on particular nights, before choosing what flicks you'll see. If matching foods and flicks is important to you. (Understandable, if so.)
So, is summer here? Not even, and spring is still weeks away.
But we can look to late April, and beyond, for this large-scale outdoor movie series, one that deftly meshes under-the-sky screenings, classic flicks, new favorites, and bevies of bite-delicious food trucks, all in memorable park settings, every week, over several warm-weather months.
