The Americana, Aglow

The Americana at Brand's next up on the twinkle calendar.

While we await the opening of the new, Glendale-based Museum of Neon Art, we can take heart that its future neighbor is already prepping nighttime wattage lovers for a good glow.

It's the Americana at Brand we refer to, of course. And while the outdoor shopping and entertainment destination does the illuminating-the-night thing pretty well most evenings of the year, it multiplies that by 10 come Christmastime.

We're talking about the Americana's 100-foot-tall tree and all the twinkly little bulbs strung up hither and thither. The switch is set to be flipped on all the yuletide decorations on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Like its mid-city cousin The Grove, which turned on its giant fir on Sunday, Nov. 11, there are extras in store.

Like? A faux snowfall, seasonal frippery (snowmen and reindeers and such), carolers, fireworks, and a performance by Cirque du Santa.

There's also a toy drive going on, so be sure to read all the details and show with your donation on the 18th.

It's true that we can't wait for the neon institution to open in its new location. But the Americana is intent on keeping things lit for late November and up through Christmas.
