The Flower Fields Open for a Stunning but Short Run

March 1 is the traditional first seasonal day of the blossom-filled Carlsbad destination.

What to Know

Would you define 10 weeks as "short"?

You probably would not, if you had to fill that time with unexciting errands, ho-hum tasks, and gotta-do-it-but-don't-wanna stuff.

But if that span was rich with wondrous colors created by nature, and huge spreads of very bright blossoms, and loads of mind-interesting events, and spring sunshine to top it all off?

Yeah, we'd probably want those 10 weeks to last all year long, 24/7, around the clock, pretty please and thank you.

Alas: The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch isn't an all-year-long affair, but it does bewitch the hearts and minds of flower fans throughout March, April, and the beginning of May each and every year, thanks to the thousands of ranunculus flowers that so spectacularly bloom on the expansive property.

As is tradition, the bud-laden location will open on March 1.

The final day? It's always Mother's Day, which is May 12 in 2019.

Note that peak bloom, when all of those super-pink and mega-yellow and really-really-red flowers are doing their amazing thing, can vary each year, so you'll want to follow the attraction's social feeds to time your visit.

If peeking at the peak is your jam, that is. But it is pretty special at any time.

Also good to keep in mind?

There's plenty to do at The Flower Fields, beyond reveling in all of that ranunculus-based beauty. A barre class, food trucks, Blues Day, a Sunset Wine Tasting, and so many other cool things are dotting the 2019 calendar.

Quite literally, or almost literally, you could be at The Flower Fields every day of its run and have something to do beyond strolling among its superstar, stem-rocking blossoms.

An adult admission is $18, and events may be ticketed separately, if you want to jump into a floral-arranging workshop or wine tasting or such.

Of course, your best camera is an essential accessory when visiting the historic spread, which is not ocean-adjacent but not far from the Pacific either, a fact that lends the location plenty of breezy atmosphere.

Were The Flower Fields the ultimate 'grammable go-to before Instagram was around? The story checks out: People do love to snap picture after picture of all of those amazing blooms.

Blooms that seem to have had their color dial cranked up to maximum saturation.

See for yourself, when The Flower Fields open on Friday, March 1.
