Topanga's Toe-Tapping July 4th Barn Dance

Pies and ice creams and the other foods we associated with summertime celebrations don't all arrive looking one way or boasting a single flavor.

Nor does the holiday that's associated with warm-weather foods, pie-eating contests, and ice cream cones.

It's the Fourth of July we're talking about here, and while the mere mention of the occasion might make you have visions of sparkly sky shows, there's more to Independence Day-flavored festivities than pyrotechnics.

Of course, you may want to catch some fireworks on the night of Thursday, July 4, and there are plenty of places to do just that around Southern California, but not every place will be holding an old-fashioned, kick-up-the-heels 4th of July Barn Dance.

Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum, the historic, under-the-sky venue found among some of Topanga's most splendid trees, will be holding such an event on July 4, 2019.

It's a daytimer, you betcha, and it is ready to revel from 11 a.m. to 5 o'clock.

But stomping your feet at the "family hoe-down" won't be the only must-do.

Look also for the all-important pie-eating contest, plus a "... watermelon seed-spitting contest, cake walk, relay races, dunk bucket, family games, silent auction, and more."

"Wholesome," that beloved term often trucked out by sunshiny sorts on social media, comes to mind here. 

And should you have a hankering following all of that dancing you plan to do? You can buy barbecue on-site, as well as brews, too. 

Tickets are on sale, and the price for an adult ticket is $24 at the door, while kids can enter for $12 each.
