Look, don't gobble at us. True, we're about to talk about Thanksgiving, and true, Halloween hasn't even happened yet, nor has the first day of fall, nor has Labor Day.
But, it's important stuff we're going to be gobbling about, and here's why: The Long Beach Turkey Trot, that colorful, costume-y, community-helping run that heads out each and every Thanksgiving morning, has opened its sign-ups.
If you run, walk, and like helping community groups, you have to be on this. On this like gravy on a heap of mashed potatoes.
Why? Well, we don't have a traditional Thanksgiving parade here in Southern California, but we do have a place where we can dress like the foods of the holiday table. Oh, and Turkey Trot participants most definitely do. The bird itself is a favorite, though we liked the couple that dressed up as a giant fork and spoon that one run.
It's also a way to pre-work off the calories, socialize, and monetarily help out events like beach clean-ups and spelling bees.
And here's the tastiest bit of the Trot: Some 700 holiday pies are given to "random finishers."
Seriously, at what other run are they going to maybe hand you a pie?

Now we may all resume focusing on Labor Day barbecues. But it is only a matter of time before we're talking New Year's and confetti in this space. Just saying what's true.
