Vegan Suds Are the Stars of This Party

It's one of the only brew parties of its kind; food rules the day, too.

Soirees that focus on specialized suds, or at least under-served quadrants of the beer industry, have moved beyond a mere trend into a Thing, capital T. There are parties spotlighting brews made in particular regions and bashes that love on single-batch beers and get-togethers that serve the quirkiest of beer trends.

Leading the way from "generic beer festival" to "fabulous specific beer festival" is our city's own LA Vegan Beer Festival, which marks its fourth year on Saturday, May 4 at 8950 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.

It's a party that's growing, hoo boy. Many brewers, including Golden Road, Hangar 24, and North Coast, will be lining up the small cups. Many food trucks and purveyors, including Chicago Vegan Foods, Green Truck, Kind Kreme, Frankenstand, and LA Vegan Crepe'll be serving up veganesque goodies like plant-based franks and smoothies. (A smoothie in one hand, a beer in the other? You could rock that look.)

It's a larger space than in years past, so the bands set to rock through the afternoon'll have space to spread their gear out. Groups on the roster include Saint Motel, Janks, and Branches.

Cost is fifty bucks at the door.

We'll raise something sudsy and vegan, too, to the day's hosts: Tony's Darts Away, vegan writer Quarry Girl, and the Roxy are on the overseeing committee.
