Viva La Vida: Long Beach Pride

Multiple music stages, and the huge parade, will fill the festive calendar.

While the spirit, flavor, panache, and soul of Pride run throughout the calendar, there is a time of year when many of the Golden State's biggest and longest-running LGBTQ festivals begin to take shape, reveal parade route information, and post the musicians that'll keep revelers dancing.

You're thinking June, surely, a time of year with ties to the gay rights movement, and the memory of Stonewall. And June is right on, for Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Orange County will all host their celebrations at different points of the spring-to-summer month.

But the community fun, effervescent tunes, and parade-day whoopla all revs up in Long Beach 'round about the middle of May. And, as it has been doing since 1984, Long Beach Pride will once again welcome thousands of visitors and locals at the weekend-long tradition.

The 2017 dates? Everything is burbling up in the LBC, festival and parade both, on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.

There's lots to know like what your festival entrance fee will be ($25 at the door, but $20 ahead of time). The parade's begin point is at Ocean and Lindero Avenue (and it steps off at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday the 21st).

And providing the vibes, crowd shout-outs, and move-to-it rhythms and flows? Chaka Khan, Jody Watley and SRL, Ty Herndon, Monica, Taylor Bennett, Amanda Miguel, Mann Ft. Lanaamak, Brez, and Maria Jose.

"Viva La Vida — Here's to Life" is the hope-filled message at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride online HQ. Feeling it? Ready to share that strong sentiment? Get your info before making for the huge party.
