Weekend: Happy Mother's Day

Where will you take your mostest favorite person ever?

Mother's Day: Just about every restaurant in town'll be going the eggs Benedict and mimosa route -- which, of course, is one of the best routes to go -- but there are a few places doing up the holiday in a slightly different manner. The Queen Mary is getting brunchy, but there are spa options and a chance to visit the Diana: Legacy of a Princess exhibit, too. The San Diego Zoo has its mega Garden Festival on all weekend, and the big gardens? Descanso, the Huntington, and the Arboretum are all open on May 11, and looking mighty flowery, too.

An Evening with Women: Linda Perry, Margaret Cho, 4 Non Blondes, Milla Jovovich, and Evan Rachel Wood are the headliners for this Beverly Hilton fundraising dinner on Saturday, May 10. The beneficiary? The LA Gay and Lesbian Center's services for women and girls. A silent auction and cocktails round out the important-of-vision, rollicking/rocking evening.

Rocket Launch: We humans like to send things into the air, whether it's a helium-filled balloon or great spacecraft that head for the cosmos. And while we all have different preferences, one thing is practically fact: Everyone likes cool, plastic two-liter bottle rockets. The Discovery Science Center visits Boeing Huntington Beach for a day of whizbang wonders of the once-filled-with-soda assortment. Saturday, May 10

Garden Conservancy Open Day: Pasadena's petal-pretty party fell at the end of April; now Beverly Hills will blossom. What's an "open day"? It's when a handful of hoity gardens and green spaces open, for a fee, to the public. Greystone Park & Mansion is on the Saturday, May 10 roster, among others. And "hoity" is a total compliment. Don't we want our nature-nice spaces a little fancy, now and then?

West Coast BBQ Classic: Nope, Long Beach's historic ocean-liner won't be fully brunched-out this weekend; a rib-packed, smokey-sauced day is set to hit the grills next to the Queen Mary on Saturday, May 10. Can you buy tasting tickets for a couple of bucks each, after paying admission to get into the barbecue bash? Of course you can. Who would throw a 'Q celebration and not sell tasting tickets? That would just be mean. Wear a shirt you don't mind getting some stains on, is all we're saying.
