You, Your Pup, a Dog Wash, and Beer Tasting

Angel City Brewery hosts a sweet pet fundraiser, complete with tasty foams

While Southern California's take-your-dog-most-anywhere rep continues to grow, there are still certain pursuits that one does not invite one's best friend. Soap box derbies are one obvious answer -- you thought that, too? -- only because dogs can be real back-seat drivers. Surfing is another spot, though that's changing, what with the dogs-on-surfboards fundraisers that continue to spring up along our coast.

And what of beer tastings? Nope, you rarely see a pooch there, unless the pooch in question belongs to the brewmaster. But Angel City Brewery, the still-new-ish brewhouse in the downtown arts district, is changing that up on Sunday, June 23, alongside Much Love Animal Rescue.

The sudsy-in-two-ways scenario of Barks, Bubbles, and Brews? Dogs will get a bath, courtesy of Much Love volunteers. There's a ten-buck suggested donation -- doable -- and there'll be a pet adoption going down, too.

And, yep, you'll be at a brewery -- it's in the name -- so beer tastings will be happening inside. Tunes and food for sale from Tokyo Doggie Style complete the pup-focused picture.

We're liking this for two reasons. One? Fundraisers and breweries seem like a natural pairing, so cheers, Angel City for stepping up the giving back.

And two? Why shouldn't our dogs play a bigger role in our social life, if they are socialized and able to go out with their human on a sunny Sunday afternoon for some suds-based enjoyment? It's the way it is in many parts of the globe, and, given that LA is such the world city, it makes sense to incorporate our well-behaved pets in more offbeat but still law-abiding outings.

An easy-breezy beer tasting with a give-back bent is a perfect starting point for this four-paw'd initiative.
