Thousands Without Power After SoCal Storm

Repair crews worked throughout the day Saturday to restore power to thousands left in the dark when lightning struck equipment during an autumn storm.

About 1,500 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers remained without power by 5 p.m., spokesman Jason Stinnett said.

The largest remaining outage affected customers in the Beverly Grove-Fairfax area, Stinett said.

Most of those were expected to see power restored about 6 p.m., he said.

Periodic spot outages were possible through the evening as workers finished repairs.

Southern California Edison crews were also busy restoring power to about 3,150 Los Angeles County customers and 1,150 in Orange County, according to the utility provider's online outage list.

Areas hardest hit included Montebello, Willowbrook, Rancho Palos Verdes and Pomona, the list said. Restoration was expected by morning hours.

Huntington Beach was among the hardest-hit areas in Orange County with more than 1,000 customers affected, SCE said.
