157 Pounds of Newborn Giraffe Love

The San Diego Zoo says hello to the 157-pound newborn.

WE KNOW, WE KNOW: Reindeer get all of the prance-sweet, frolic-cute animal love in the week before Christmas, when thousands of antler aficionados turn their eyes to the skies in the hope that a small red nose'll be spied. But the San Diego Zoo had other prancing matters to attend to on Christmas week, and, nope, there wasn't a reindeer around. A new Masai giraffe arrived on the planet, and specifically at the famous animal park, on Sunday, Dec. 22, and, yep, prancing, frolic-fun behavior soon ensued, days later, as it tends to with baby giraffes. We mean, please: That whole learning to operate those long, long legs thing? You can grow tired of your favorite ice cream, and your favorite television show can run its course, but humanity will always be obsessed with watching a newborn giraffe take its first wobble-confident steps.

157 POUNDS: The giraffe weighed in at over 150 pounds at birth and stood an inch over six feet. We marvel at this, yes, because we tend to compare everything in the world to our own humanness -- we do do this, right, almost without thinking? -- but that notable weight and height is right on target for a giraffe. If you can't get down to see her before she gets growing, and one day eclipses 500 pounds (a possibility), you can eye this video below. Prepare yourself; the word "awww" may escape your lips by the time the brief clip has wrapped.

OH YES... and cheers to mom Bahati and dad Silver, the "herd sire."
