23rd Annual AIDS Walk in Palm Springs

The AIDS Walk is aimed to raise funds for services provided by the Desert AIDS Project

Nearly 1,200 walkers and runners are expected to participate in Saturday's 23rd annual AIDS Walk in Palm Springs.

The event, which will feature a 5K run for the first time, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Ruth Hardy Park, with registration scheduled for 8 a.m., said Barry Dayton, a spokesman for Desert AIDS Project.

The AIDS Walk is aimed to raise funds for services provided by the Desert AIDS Project to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Coachella Valley.

Walkers and runners will take separate routes around downtown Palm Springs, he said.

A health and fitness fair will be held following the walk and run, featuring 30 companies and organizations with information about nutrition, illness prevention, free HIV testing and medical treatments.
