7 Killed During LA Christmas Weekend Traffic Crashes

LOS ANGELES -- Seven people died in traffic crashes in Los Angeles County over the Christmas weekend, the same number as last year during the same period, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

Statewide, there were 43 traffic deaths reported from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, compared with 37 fatalities during the 2007 Christmas holiday period.

CHP officers in the county made 270 DUI arrests during that period, compared with 354 arrests in 2007.

Statewide, CHP officers nabbed 1,397 DUI suspects over the Christmas holiday, compared with 1,661 such arrests during the same period a year ago.
