8/20: The State, RiffTrax, Tarantino Live

"THE STATE" STARS SIGN DVDS: We're still grappling with the news that "Reno 911!" is no more. That makes us as sad. Sad as Lieutenant Dangle when he has to wear trousers. But, tonight we're happy: stars of "The State" -- the troupe that spawned, good spawned, not like evil spawned, a lot of "Reno 911!" stars -- are showing at Lazer Blazer to sign "The State" DVD set. Kerri Kenney-Silver and Thomas Lennon are set to show, along with other Staters. A tissue to dry our sad eyes. 7-8PM

RIFFTRAX LIVE! Or mostly live, at least where we're living. But: you're a "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" fan. You think Mike Nelson is the nicest thing next to cream cheese, when it is mixed with little pineapple bits. (We're Kevin Murphy girls ourselves; Bill, you're cute, too.) The guys are riffing on "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and sending it to theaters everywhere, including a few here. We're on tape delay in LA, and unless we can move the entire Pacific time zone by tonight, that probably won't change. Still, no complaints. Funny! Bring it. 8PM; check listings

QUENTIN TARANTINO: He's at Amoeba Records at 8PM in support of the "Inglourious Basterds" soundtrack. It looks like the night sold out in a jiffy. But we had to make mention. In case you have tickets, and want to crow about it. After all, he's Mr. SoCal New Cinema, he's Mr. New Beverly, he's the Royale with cheese. If you really want to see Mr. Tarantino, there's now a wax figure of the director at Madame Tussauds.
