8/21: Vintage Shopping and Vino

COCKTAILS IN HISTORIC PLACES: They've done the Edison. They've hit The Kress. Now the Art Deco Society of LA, and all those swells that like to dress up to the nines, are making for Vintage Playclothes. What will happen there? Sipping, browsing of classic duds, making friendly with other people who don't mind donning a few fancy frocks for an evening of chardonnay and gossip. Apply a fresh coat of lipstick, and make for Studio City; party's from 6-8PM

FREE ARGENTINE TANGO NIGHT: Under the stars. At Music Center Plaza. The every-other-Friday, all-summer-long Dance Downtown series is very much winding up for 2009 -- there's only one night left after tonight, and it is a month from now -- so if you've been hemming/hawing about free lessons, and shimmying in the night shadows of skyscrapers, vow to stop. And start dancing. For free. 6:30-10PM. Los Angeles Tango Ensemble serenades. Rose in your teeth is optional.

FREE SUNDANCE SHORTS SCREENING: We made mention of this last week -- partly because it is Sundance-backed, partly because it is free, partly because James Franco is scheduled to be there -- "Freaks and Geeks" 4ever -- but we wanted to give it one more shout. It's a night of no-admission short films, followed by DJing and happy partying. It's at the Downtown Independent. Everything starts at 8PM, but best arrive early for a spot.
