98.7fm at Home in Hollywood Tower

A station is taking a suite in a Tinseltown landmark.

Call it mixed use with mojo.

Because plenty of us live in places that serve both the residential and business sectors. You'll find apartments over ice cream shops in this city, over clothing stores, over markets.

We've never called a radio station a neighbor, however. Few of us have, we imagine. Which makes us intrigued about the news that 98.7fm will be keeping an apartment at the famous Hollywood Tower.

You know the Hollywood Tower. On Franklin. You just want to wear a velvet bolero with corsage merely by gazing at it.

The station plans to use its new pied-a-terre for small performances, star-driven meets-and-greets, low-key hobnobbery. In other words, 98.7 won't be broadcasting from the iconic building, but various music luminaries will be swinging by the Hollywood Tower suite to put on a show or hang now and then.

Yup, we said "hang." Kick it back. Do what is done in a cozy flat reserved for rock star socializing. Oh, did we say "flat"? We meant penthouse. 98.7 is taking the penthouse. We would. If we were an entire radio station.

So, Hollywood Tower residents: Who do you want to share an elevator with first? Will it be too weird to be listening to a song on your headphones, carrying your groceries, and then the very singer of that song says "hey" to you in the lobby? The lobby of your very building?

Not weird. Frankly awesome.
