“Thousands” Turn Out for Philippe's 100th; Mayor Tony Works the Counter!

Balloons! [Ed Fuentes, blogdowntown]

How long will people wait for a 10-cent sandwich? blogdowntown scoped the line at Philippe's yesterday that went "down Alameda and through the parking lot, circling the building, up Ord Street, down North Spring and circled through another parking lot." They were so slammed that even the government employees in attendance were put to work, including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Councilmembers Ed Reyes and Dennis Zine, and Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (although it doesn't look like Villaraigosa was wearing his hairnet). Lots of photos, including a fancy new sign commemorating a century of French-dipping.
