At Smashbox: Whitley Kros Hits Morocco, Africa, Greece

Designers Marissa Ribisi and Sophia Coloma always create a narrative for their fictional muse and label namesake Whitley Kros: for spring '09, she tells us: "I went to Morocco...with Allen Ginsberg in my satchel and Bob Dylan in my ears. Met Alessandro and embarked on a romantic adventure...Safari in Africa and sunsets in Greece."

The result: 43 looks, offering easy, effortless and pretty dressing in cotton and chambray, silk and chiffon, and lightweight knits. The label debuted last spring with inspiring original prints in bright, saturated hues and did it again this spring with a dusty blue leopard print, a painterly pink and turquoise Mykonos floral print, a sweet parade of African animals, pale pastel plaids, and a bold fuchsia Tangier print.

Structured cropped double-breasted jackets worn swingy and open and a chambray blazer offset roomy tanks, blouses and Calypso pants and delicate lingerie-inspired shorts. Virtually every piece looked supremely comfy, making us want to pack up the collection and get outta dodge.
