Baz Luhrmann Appearance Tempts Us to Dress More “Moulin Rouge”-ish

Yes, we are sartorially directionless and thus take all of our fashion cues from movies, but, more and more, Baz Luhrmann movies specifically. There was the shoulder-baring outlandishness of "Strictly Ballroom," and, of course, our sad-day DVD, "Moulin Rouge" (we'd gussy-up like the Green Fairy if loved ones would permit us to do so). Then there was the whole "Amelie" phase, but we realize that wasn't a Baz Luhrmann film, and now we feel awkward for even mentioning it.

So knowing that Mr. Luhrmann is going to be at the Aero Theater on Saturday, November 22 (following a screening of his new film "Australia") inspires us want to don our Parisian-style pretties. But now, looking at the radiant yet conservatively attired Nicole Kidman in the trailers, we're wondering if it isn't time to move onto khakis and trousers and sensible fedoras. Goodbye frilly garters, hello Outback-sturdy boots?

The evening is currently listed as sold-out -- back to the bottom drawer, Parisian pretties -- but the double feature the next night sounds just as delightful: a showing of "Moulin Rouge" followed by "Romeo + Juliet" (could Leonardo DiCaprio look any more fresh faced than in that film? We think not.) Baz Luhrmann and "Australia": Saturday, November 22, 7:30PM. Screenings of "Moulin Rouge" and "Romeo + Juliet": Sunday, November 23, 7:30PM. Aero Theater, 1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica. 310-260-1528
