Broom Service Package at Shade Hotel

Need a last-minute Halloween jaunt? Hop on your stick and fly for Manhattan Beach.

HOTELS AND HALLOWEEN... are as perfect a pairing as crisp apples and melted caramel or a flickering candle and a carved-out jack o'lantern. So many of our greatest ghoul stories happen along the lengthy hallways of atmospheric inns, and it is impossible not to reference "The Shining" or "American Horror Story" when checking in for a night, anywhere, around the end of October. If you still need a night out on Saturday, Oct. 31, one that offers a chance to gussy up, costume-style, and you'd like it to be a hotel-type situation, the better not to have to hit the roads after all the celebrating, you're in luck, dear witches of SoCal: The Shade Hotel of Manhattan Beach has the "Broom Service" you've been searching for, and a "creepy carnival bash" to boot, one that comes with seasonal cocktails and a very nice thing at the center of its Halloween-loving heart.

IT'S YEAR TWO... for the celebration, which boasts circus performers, magic performed before your amazed eyes, and a DJ to keep the beats a-thumpin'. The spooky cocktails will be spooky and the bites'll cover everything from Kobe beef mini truffle sliders to buffalo chicken lollipops. Looking to bed down right there, so you can wake up not far from the ocean on the first day of November? Which, by the by, happens to be Daylight Saving Time, meaning you'll "fall back" and score an extra hour of sleeping in at the hotel? Book the Broom Service package, which nets you a night at Shade plus "premium bottle service at zinc@shade during the bash." Starting price? It's $449.

OH, AND THE "NICE THING" MENTIONED EARLIER? The giveback bash is a fundraiser for 29-year-old Jon Melim-Honore, who is currently fighting leukemia. He's "a friend of the Shade family," and all raffle ticket sales from night will support Mr. Melim-Honore. The holiday might be on the scary side, but raising some funds while you revel is always sweet.
