Catalina Waters Get Scuba-Spiffy

THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS: Saturday, Feb. 26 is a big day on Santa Catalina Island. That is, in fact, "the only time scuba diving is allowed in Avalon Bay." So why are some 500 volunteer divers taking to the waters? To do clean up on one of California's most photographed slices of ocean. Nice. Not only is this a great thing to participate in, but it must be quite a sight for the landlubbers to watch -- you don't normally see hundreds of suited-out people in the harbor.

MORE CATALINA: We like the island, and its big harbor, looking spiffy and staying wild. In honor of the 30th Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup, we're posting a link to the Bald Eagle cam that the Catalina Chamber directed us to. Yeah, we can watch a pretty eagle in its nest, with ocean just beyond, for an hour. You?
