Charles Phoenix's Moonlight Rollerway Jubilee

Dream-wheelers: Prepare for a skating show, an organist, and the Hokey-Pokey.

Practically every kid wobbles into a pair of rollerskates at some point in his or her life, but rollerskating at a roller rink is practically its own distinctive lifestyle.

Certain hairstyles ruled, and shorts, and knee socks, and routines sprang up around much-played rink anthems. ("Hokey-Pokey," we are so looking at you on this one.)

And while we adults don't indulge in much of that these days, Charles Phoenix, that "Ambassador of Americana," waves us back to the past when the pleasures of the rink often ruled our entire weekends.

The history-loving funnyman is throwing another skate party at Glendale's retro-spunky Moonlight Rollerway. Date's Sunday, July 13, and if you don't feather your hair and stick a fat comb in the back pocket of your jeans, you best make other plans for the night.

We josh. Wear what you like, but just know that fellow attendees may be rocking the sparkly laces and lip gloss and muscle tees. Please. You'll be so jealous. Just a warm warning, from the heart. Best bring those glitter-glam disco-sweet '78 stylez and hard.

Just sayin'.

Tickets? They're $39 and include "free snack bar treats." That's pretty squeal-worthy, especially because you totally remember wheedling your parents for a dollar so you could stock up on cherry Jolly Ranchers. (That couldn't have been just us, right?)

Skate rental and after-skate party is part of the admission.

You won't just be skating, though, and enjoying Mr. Phoenix's cheeky witticisms and remembrances. Skating stars shall perform, and yes --  yesssss -- the "Hokey-Pokey" will be a centerpiece.

Say it with us now: Put your left foot in. Put your left foot out. Put your left foot in and you shake it all about...
