Charming Wine Party Where Pickford Played

If you've ever legged it around Raleigh Studios, the trim, tidy clutch of soundstages just south of Paramount's Bronson gate, you've likely felt its charms. It feels old, and it is: Raleigh will celebrate its 100th in just about half a decade. Mary Pickford herself once roamed Raleigh, but many stars have roamed its byways and dressing rooms after her (maybe not with the verve Miss Mary had; that lady just had spunk to spare).

Now the LA WineFest is pouring at this historic cinema spot, and we feel it is the perfect nook for a sybaritic, Saturday-and-Sunday to-do. Grape purveyors from all over -- Lodi to Paso Robles to Oregon -- are at the bottles; plus beer, bourbon and sake are on the bill, too. And of course, expect experts talking shop. Shop talk is nice when it is all about wine, we find.

But what would Mary sip? We'd like to think the Hollywood icon would probably go shiraz. Tres glam.

Tickets are on sale at the LA WineFest site; weekend, single-day, or couple tickets (a good option rarely seen) are available. June 6-7, Raleigh Studios, Hollywood
