CHIchella: Adoptable Pups Rule

The Helen Woodward Animal Center loves on the little tykes in its tail-wagging brood.

THAT BIG PERSONALITY: Anyone who has ever spent time with a Chihuahua knows just how large/in charge the wee tail-waggers are. They've got character to spare, oodles of spunk, and they have a way of dominating, spirit-wise, any room they enter. That they're only a few pounds matters not; Chihuahuas possess the power of a pup ten times their size. The Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe is going to lavishly love upon the diminutive breed for the second year in a row via CHIchella, a two-hour party that happens to coincide with another "-chella" that's happening out in the desert, a few hours to the east and north. (Hint: It's the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.)

YOU WON'T NEED A TICKET, however, to join the 10 a.m. to noon fun times at the center on Saturday, April 16. You'll only need to show up and meet the frolicsome furry ones who truly and really need to find a home and someone to dote upon (and vice versa). They'll all be Chihuahuas at CHIchella, or have a bit of Chihuahua to them, and the center hopes that visitors will see the pooches' many "lovable qualities" (they'll surely be on display while they play, cute cute). A statement by the rescue outfit reveals that "(a)fter pit bulls and American Staffordshire terriers, Chihuahuas are one of the most surrendered dog breeds in the country." Perhaps you'll meet your match -- "couch potatoes" and "spunky athletic types" are expected to be romping at the center's X-Pen Pavilion -- so don your trendiest sunglasses and coolest get-up and see these sweeties at the hottest festival around.

WANT A PEEK... at the 2015 adorableness? You got it...
