ConstructionWatch: West Hollywood's Bloody Iceberg

Work continues on architect Cesar Pelli's Red building at the Pacific Design Center at Melrose Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood, a building that was nicknamed the "Bloody Iceberg," by one publication this fall. Lovely! But nicknames are appropriate given that the Blue Building has been coined the “Blue Whale." This third building, a 400,000-square-foot, $100 million complex, joins that Blue building (which opened in 1975) and the Green building (which opened in 1988) at the sprawling design-orientated complex. As previously noted, the Red building will have "two slightly curved office towers—six and eight stories, respectively—sitting atop seven floors of parking," according to ArchRecord.com. Meanwhile, the web site for the Red Building is still referencing an ambitious 2009 opening date, while also offering floor plans for potential tenants.
