Kids Left in Filth While Mom Smoked Weed: Cops

Authorities say an Orange County woman left her two young daughters alone overnight in a house with maggots, overflowing toilets and knee-high piles of trash and was arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

Cypress police Sgt. Tom Bruce said 35-year-old Alison Le Anne Ebert was arrested Tuesday after officers found her 9- and 11-year-old daughters alone in the filthy house earlier in the day.

Bruce says Ebert told investigators that she had been "at a dude's house smoking weed."

The two girls and a 5-year-old sibling who was staying with relatives were turned over to the county's Child Protective Services. City officials condemned the house after deeming it uninhabitable.

Ebert was booked into a city jail and released on her own recognizance.
