Crafts After Dark

The LA Craft Experience in Chinatown is back.

When the LA Craft Experience landed in the historic quarter of Chinatown on Saturday, Aug. 14, we wondered at the unusual pleasure of shopping for fancy aprons and one-of-a-kind ear studs near midnight.

Because it was a nighttime craft fair, and while night markets are found the world over, they don't come around these parts nearly enough. Good thing LA Craft Experience is back, on Saturday, Aug. 28, alongside Chinatown Summer Nights (the last of the Chinatown Summer Nights for the year, we should note).

Beyond looking for baubles, you can enjoy cooking demos, food trucks, and Latin dance lessons (including Bachata). And will the neon signs of Chinatown cast an especially atmospheric light over the proceedings? You've been there at twilight. You know.

If you can't make the night market, LA Craft Experience returns to Chinatown every second Saturday starting in October. These fairs won't be after dark, but they'll still be full of finds. And with the holidays not long after October, that is worth remembering.

The theme of the last Chinatown Summer Nights night is longevity, by the way. Doing interesting things like this can only help that matter, one would think.
