Cub Cavorts About San Dimas

A black bear cub wandered into Horsethief Canyon Park in San Dimas Thursday, spending two hours searching for food before returning to the Angeles National Forest, authorities said.

The bear was first spotted about 4 p.m., said Lt. Craig Boyett of the San Dimas Sheriff's Station.

Deputies and state fish and game officials showed up as the bear was going through garbage cans and Dumpsters.

Deputies made certain the bear didn't have an opportunity to confront any people while fish and game officials watched as the animal finally "meandered back into the hills," Boyett said.

The park is about half-mile north of the Foothill (30) Freeway, just south of the Angeles National Forest.
