SANTA FE SPRINGS: How timely. Lehrer Architects, headed up by Michael Lehrer, has designed the inside of a new Los Angeles County Register-Recorder/County Clerk Elections Operations in Santa Fe Springs. What is that, you ask? In part, it's where voting machines live. More than 5,000 voting machines are stored here, shipped out around the county around voting day. There was a dedication ceremony for the new center last week; according to the press release, the work on the building included adding "huge swaths of color and gigantic banners featuring pictures of county fauna, topography and geographic icons." And more on the center: "The 110,000-square-foot tilt-up concrete warehouse comprises 18,000 square feet of office space for the Registrar-Recorder staff, storage capacity for more than 1,200 pallets containing voting material and for 5,000 new ballot reading and voter accessibility devices. The facility also houses birth, marriage, property, and death records for the County of Los Angeles." That's a picture of the interior. [Curbed InBox]
