Dodgers Fill Bullpen With Two Signings

Former Dodger Jamey Wright returns to LA's bullpen

The Dodgers did some last-minute Holiday spending on Christmas Eve with the signings of Chris Perez and Jamey Wright. The pair of relief pitchers were both signed to one-year deals for a combined $4.1 million, finishing the team's search for relief pitching.

Chris Perez is a two-time All Star from his time with the Cleveland Indians. In 2011 and 2012 he combined for 75 saves in 83 opportunities on his way to All-Star nods.

But, in 2013 he posted career worsts in ERA, WHIP and home runs. The troubling season comes along with some issues off the mound, with one story that stands out as particularily odd. Last season Perez was convicted for possession of marijuana when he had 1/3 pound of marijuana delivered by mail to his house--addressed to his dog.

Jamey Wright also has an interesting story, but in a completely different light. Wright, 39, just signed his first Major League deal since receiving Minor League contracts in each of the last eight seasons.

He was let go by the Dodgers after the 2012 season and spent 2013 in Tampa Bay with the Rays where he put up his best WHIP of his career at 1.200 along with a 3.09 ERA.At 39-years old he will likely be the oldest member of the 2014 squad.

With Wright and Perez added to the bullpen the Dodgers have now filled in all the roles available and have over $30 million committed to relief pitching.

They now have Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson slated to close out games, lefties in Paco Rodriguez and J.P. Howell, and a plenty of righties in Brandon League, Scott Elbert, Chris Withrow, Chris Perez, and Jamey Wright, along with potential starters Josh Beckett and Chad Billingsley.
