The MLB regular season is over, and the Dodgers lost Game 162 in a 2-1 contest against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The Dodgers finished with a 92-70 record atop the NL West with an 11-game lead over the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks.
Hyun-Jin Ryu capped off a successful rookie season with a four-inning, eight-hit, two-run outing on Sunday. He got off on a bad foot in the first inning, walking the first batter he faced then giving up three-straight singles.
Ryu found himself down 1-0 in the first with bases loaded and no outs, but managed to get out the inning without any further damage. In the fourth, he gave up another run after giving up three singles and a sacrifice bunt to start the inning.
Ryu is currently slated to start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves. He will be taking the mound for the Dodgers first home playoff game since 2009.
He was given just one run of support on a Skip Schumaker single in the fifth inning, scoring Mark Ellis. The Dodgers finished with just four hits despite Yasiel Puig, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Juan Uribe in the starting lineup.
Since the game could be considered mostly a postseason tune-up, all four of those big hitters were removed after two at bats and replaced with back-ups.
The bats put on a threat in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out. Tim Federowicz and Skip Schumaker both struck out to end the game 2-1 and the regular season at 92-70.
Ricky Nolasco, Chris Capuano, Chris Withrow, Brian Wilson, J.P. Howell, and Kenley Jansen were all used out of the bullpen. They combined for five innings of scoreless relief and gave up three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.
The Dodgers have four days off before they head out to Atlanta to face the Braves for the start of the NLDS, but they will not have Matt Kemp, and possibly not Andre Ethier with them.
