Does Duckie Know? Molly Ringwald Gets Jazzy

She's done a number of stage shows, including "Sweet Charity" (which demands a set of golden pipes), but Molly Ringwald will forever be Clare, the snobby, sushi-for-detention-lunch girl in "Breakfast Club" to a certain group of film-focused nostalgia buffs. But a growing group of standards fans recognizes that Ringwald can sing, and how, as she will do at the Pasadena Jazz Institute on Wednesday, December 17.

In fact, the John Hughes protegee actually got her start singing -- she was in a production of "Annie" as a lass -- so that she came to fame through boyfriend-y angst and confessions in high school libraries is a bit of twist. And although she's still working in adolescent-centered angst -- now as the mom, on ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" -- her vocal talents are continuing to gain accolades and win her dates with prestigious spots like the Pasadena Jazz Institute.

Will she cover your favorite standard? A sultry, smoky number from yore? Just don't ask her to cover anything by Simple Minds or OMD. Actually, that might be totally rad.
