Doing Good Deeds on the Do Good Bus

The Los Angeles bus gathers volunteers from around the city to complete good deeds

From helping the homeless to dressing less fortunate teens for prom, the Do Good Bus is a local non-profit organization that invites volunteers to join together and hop into its disco-balling, group-gaming ride to a good deed.

After riding a party bus for her birthday two years ago, Rebecca Pontius and a close friend enjoyed the sense of community, and decided to bring that to LA while lending a helping hand.

"[Our] mission is to build community by helping others, by having fun and by simply joining forces," said Pontius.

Keeping their destination a secret, Pontius and friends share their next "Do Good" event, date and pick-up time through their website and social networks. With a small fee, a provided lunch and energetic transportation, the group uses interactive games to help break the ice for all newcomers.

"The people that came together for it were completely random and got on as individuals and by the end of it, emails exchanged, a community built and a real good experience," said Rita Grindel, a local do-dooder.

One of the most recent projects for the Do Good Bus was at LA's Prom Closet, where a group of do-gooders sewed, altered, and assisted teen girls in finding their dream dresses for their very own senior prom.

"The feeling that you actually did do something and then realizing that a lot of little hands came together makes a pretty big impact," said Grindel.
